The West Monroe, Louisiana business makes products for duck hunters, primarily a duck call called Duck Commander. The Robertson men—brothers Phil and Si, and Phil's sons Jase, Willie, and Jep—are known for their long beards and their Christian views. After five seasons, Conrad chose to leave the series, and was replaced by another former Laguna Beach star, Kristin Cavallari, beginning in the second half of season five. Cavallari signed on for two additional seasons following the fifth.

The show differs from other prank television programs in that the stars of Impractical Jokers do not know the details of the prank until the moment they are performing it on strangers. While one cast-member performs the prank, the other three comedians in the troupe are behind the scenes feeding lines to their friend via microphone (with an earpiece). The lines fed to the prankster are meant to create a humorous and awkward exchange between the prankster and the stranger being pranked.

The series follows the day-to-day actions of Tremont Towing, a well-established towing company in the South Beach area. Tremont is usually shown being involved in traffic towing and financial reposessions. Tremont Towing has been shown in several disputes with a rival towing company called The Finest Towing. The Finest is shown to contain very corrupt drivers who go as far as stealing tows and injuring Tremont drivers. Tremont Towing continues to rival with The Finest.
