He was featured on the PBS TV series From the Top – Live from Carnegie Hall as violinist, pianist and composer. Critics have found promise in his early compositions, and he won eight consecutive ASCAP Morton Gould Young Composer Awards. Dallas Symphony Orchestra commissioned and premiered, in November 2013, an orchestral work by Tao, to observe the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
