He was a graduate of the prestigious Al-Azhar University in Cairo and was known for his humour, popular sermons, and for his outspoken stance against music, restrictions on polygamy, and injustice and oppression in the Muslim world. (Sheikh Kishk is not to be confused with author and journalist Muhammad Jalal Al-Kishk (also Muhammad Galal Al-Kushk) who gained some notoriety for his ideas concerning the nature of erections and sex between males in heaven. )
